Reverie

Reverie
REVERIE

I have a very special friend
I visit every week
Her name is Mother Nature
She has the solitude I seek

In this frantic modern era
The days too quickly go
But in the serenity of nature
Time moves tranquilly and slow

While in Mother Nature's company
And the serenity I feel
The mind thinks much more clearly
Rejecting problems that aren't real

Too often in this grasping world
Material treasures grow so cold
And while we seek these earthly treasures
We overlook much that is gold

We can amass these earthly treasures
But our hearts should not be blind
To the treasures most worth seeking
Love and health and peace of mind

In the serene, enchanting bushland
Though my thoughts are not profound
I can reflect on things that matter
And keep my feet safe on the ground

Where filtered rays of sunlight
Frolic in the leafy trees
And fragrance from the native plants
Waft in the gentle breeze

I share these precious moments
With the family that I love
The family that I treasure
All other things above

Ripples on the river
Seek the shore of glittering sands
Gently nudging sleeping rocks
Clasped in mossy hands

The song of peace the river sings
Clears and soothes the head
Thoughts flow uninterrupted
And words are left unsaid

Where silence is unbroken
Except when nature's sounds are heard
The scurrying of an animal
The sweet song of a bird

And while I dwell in reverie
The croaking of a frog
Has captured intense interest
In my friendly, faithful dog

Interwoven forest sights
Adorn each restful scene
Golden globes of wattle
And lush canopies of green

Though some detest the bushland
In my mind the fact is clear
If there's a paradise on earth
For me, it must be here

The soft breeze caresses branches
Where a rugged Gum tree stands
Making music like a magic harp
Played by celestial hands

Wether in the morning sunlight
When the ripples dance and gleam
Or at the restful close of evening
The mind is free to dream

Beneath a towering river oak
The shadows are at rest
While high up in the branches
A small bird builds its nest

And while I gaze on wildflower bouquets
Set back slightly from the shore
I feel peace and sweet contentment
My spirit doesn't ask for more

And midst the beauty and the silence
I visit bygone years
And again I live the memories
Of the laughter and the tears

To live again these memories
Helps me to understand
That despite the many detours
The road of life is grand

And despite the many heartbreaks
The road of life can give
I will appreciate life's wonder
In each day that I live.
