SNOWY MOUNTAIN RANGES
Where the Snowy mountain ranges Nudge Mount Kosciuszko's side Where the crystal snow-fed waters Flow through valleys deep and wide Where the mountains boast their knowledge Of this wild and wondrous land And of how their form was fashioned By a loving artist's hand When the majestic Snowy Mountains Shake the snowflakes from their breast They reveal a world of wonder Mother Nature's love has blessed Native plants display their beauty Where the rugged brumbies roam And the wildlife thrives and frolics In their treasured mountain home And the freshening breeze at sundown Brushes wildflower, shrubs and trees Gathering scents that calm the senses And puts the heart at ease The stately mountain ranges Frame a nature lover's dream As the winding Snowy River Flows through valleys in between And the soothing, lapping waters That caress the river's banks Seem to honour Mother Nature With a whispered prayer of thanks The receding, softening sunbeams Yield to evening's gentle shade While birds sing their contentment With a sundown serenade And the early morning splendour Brings a gift that all can share As the body feels the pleasure Of the pure, fresh mountain air As I take in all its beauty Only peaceful thoughts survive When you walk in nature's garden You're so glad to be alive K.D. Abbott © 2008 NOTE: The Snowy Mountain Ranges are in the Kosciuzko National Park. The Kosciuszko National Park is approximately 150 kilometers in length. At 690,000 hectares, it is the largest park in New South Wales and the Australian Alps. At 2,228 metres, Mount Kosciuszko is Australia's highest mountain. The spelling of its name varies, but the State government insists that 'Kosciuszko' is correct. A brumby is a wild, free-roaming feral horse. |
