WINTER IN THE MOUNTAINS
A Snowman dotted landscape Heralds winter's magic scene Ski trails down a hillside Mark where happy hearts have been Proud marshmallow mountains Press upward to the sky Snow-clad limbs shed jewels of snow As breezes whisper by Small icicles strive bravely To preserve the melting snow Steam filled breaths of gossamer As you greet the folk you know Children playing happily In a harmless snowball fight Hot toddies 'round an open fire That warms one with delight Toboggans, skis, and ice skates Are revived from summer's rest The gown of white that winter wears Cloaks plains and mountain crest Crystal ponds of frozen ice Reflect the sunshine's rays Skate blades weave a pattern That write of winter praise Wisps of smoke curl skyward From homesteads every night Where children toast marshmallows With faces fresh and bright Clear, pure mountain rivers Enhanced with winter snow Flow through sleepy valleys Refreshing as they go A 'postcard' picture perfect Mother nature waves her hand And summer's drying landscape Becomes a winter wonderland K.D.
